Protean Designs is a design studio rooted in sustainability and a deep appreciation for the natural world. We believe thoughtful design can celebrate the beauty of nature while minimizing the environmental impact of the green industry.

Founded by Molly Hutt, Protean grew from a lifelong connection to the landscape and a commitment to environmental stewardship that began during her undergraduate studies in Montana and deepened through graduate research in Chile while pursuing her Master’s degree in Landscape Design and Land Planning.

With more than 30 years of experience in the landscape industry, Molly brings together her knowledge of plants, place, and design to create landscapes and gardens that are both beautiful and connected to their surroundings. Her work extends to floral design, where the same philosophy carries through—celebrating nature, sourcing thoughtfully, and creating beauty with intention.

At Protean Designs, we strive to create work that is beautiful, enduring, and respectful of the places we inhabit. Our goal is simple: to create beauty that brings joy while encouraging a deeper appreciation for and a responsibility toward the natural world.
